Booms and Blooms at Texas Discovery Gardens
When: July 4, 2009
Time: 10 am to 8 pm
Cost: Free!

Celebrate Independence Day at Fair Park. Enjoy free admission to Fair Park museums from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm, free live music and a fireworks show at dusk at the Cotton Bowl.

This year, Texas Discovery Gardens will open at 10 am and offer free admission to everyone all day. Come out early to hear live music starting at 4 pm, register for free prizes and enjoy our beautiful organic gardens. See the progress on our brand new, two-story Rosine Smith Sammons Butterfly House and Insectarium – Grand Opening will be Sept. 12, 2009.

Bring a lawn blanket and come early for best seating. After our concert, head over to the Cotton Bowl for patriotic music at 8:30 pm and fireworks at 9:30 pm.

Music schedule (all music is family friendly):
Chin’s Mojo - 7 pm (Indie rock)
Brian and The Metrotones - 6 pm (Polka and rock)
Jeremy Miller - 5 pm (Texas country and rock)
Bill Martin - 4 pm (Acoustic guitar and voice)
Lorynn The Redhead will perform at the garden entrance at 6 pm (Acoustic guitar and voice)


Basically Beethoven Festival
When: It's back at Texas Discovery Gardens! July 5, 12, 19, and 26, 2009
Time: 2:30 pm
Cost: Free!

Every Sunday afternoon in July, the Fine Arts Chamber Players presents the Basically Beethoven Festival, a series of free classical chamber music concerts. Professional musicians from across North Texas perform inside our air-conditioned Grand Hall.

The afternoon begins at 2:30 pm with For the Love of Music, a pre-concert recital series. For the Love of Music showcases young talented musicians, giving them an opportunity to perform before a wider audience. Fine Arts Chamber Players provides a venue for these gifted young artists as they pursue careers in music. The main concerts begin at 3 pm.


Herbs and Herb Container Gardens Garden Walk (Free with paid garden admission)
When:  Saturday, July 18
Time:   10 am to 11 am
Home-grown herbs can enhance your culinary creations and even your health. Join us on a tour of our herb plants in our Scent Garden and our Heirloom Rose Garden. We will demonstrate herb container gardening techniques, showing visitors how to group companion herbs for moisture and soil preferences. These can be grown on your patio or in your yard.

Fine Print: Program appropriate for ages 12 and up.

Closed Sundays, for inclement weather, New Year's Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, the Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.

Location: Texas Discovery Gardens is located at 3601 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Fair Park. Fair Park is two miles east of downtown Dallas just south of Interstate 30.

Temporary entrance: The main building is currently being renovated. To enter the gardens during the transition, please use the gate on the north side of the garden across from the Planetarium. To meet with a staff member, please enter the Gardens and then follow the signs to the Administrative Offices in the white house. Administration office hours are 9am to 5pm Monday - Saturday.

Where to park: Enter Fair Park at gate # 6 (the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. & Robert B. Cullum Blvd). Just inside the gate, turn right on Second Ave. which will then curve left and become Pennsylvania Ave. Enter the parking lot on your left. The temporary entrance to the gardens is located directly across from the Planetarium.
Driving Directions
From North Dallas, Richardson, Plano & other cities north of Dallas: take US 75 South, exit onto I-30 East, then take exit 47 (Second Avenue/Fair Park), curve to the right and turn left at the second light which is Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Enter Gate #6, turn right,  and park in the lot next to the Superpages.com Music Center.

From West Dallas, Arlington, Fort Worth and other cities west of Dallas: take I-30 East, then take exit 47 (Second Avenue/Fair Park), curve to the right and turn left at the second light which is Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Enter Gate #6 and park in the lot next to the Superpages.com Music Center.

From East Dallas, Mesquite, Rockwall and other cities east of Dallas: take I-30 West, then take exit 47C (First Avenue/Fair Park), turn right at Exposition Avenue and turn right on Parry Avenue. Parry becomes Robert B. Cullum Ave. Turn left at the fourth light which is Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Enter Gate #6, turn right, and park in the lot next to the Superpages.com Music Center.

From South Dallas, Ferris, Ennis and other cities south of Dallas: take I-45 North, exit onto I-30 East, then take exit 47 (Second Avenue/Fair Park), curve to the right and turn left at the second light which is Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Enter Gate #6, turn right, and park in the lot next to the Superpages.com Music Center.
