Art Exhibit: The Nature of Flowers
Featuring the work of Sharen Chatterton

Exhibit runs: March 22 through July 31

Hours: 10 am-5 pm

Join us for a stroll through a garden of vibrant flowers and butterflies—captured on canvas—with the inaugural exhibit for local artist and gardener Sharen Chatterton.

Chatterton paints almost exclusively in acrylic, utilizing the bright colors to create garden scenes full of life. Her effervescent paintings draw viewers in and encourage them to leave with a smile.

Both kids and art lovers will enjoy looking at colorful butterflies and flowers, in addition to the occasional still life. Click here to read more about the exhibit!

Rosine Smith Sammons Butterfly House and Insectarium

When: Daily (year-round)

Time: 10 am-5 pm *Last ticket sold at 4:15 pm

The butterflies are back! Enjoy this two-level butterfly house with more than 500 free-flying tropical butterflies. See more than 60 species of tropical plants, including the pitcher plant at the bottom of the ramp.

Sat. August 14: Butterfly Festival! 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

We’re all about butterflies as we celebrate our first Butterfly Festival. Join us all day for educational booths, crafts and more! We’ll have select butterfly host and nectar plants on sale, as well as information on how to start your own butterfly garden. Sat. September 18: Dallas Green Festival 9 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Free garden admission.

Join us for the 3rd annual “Dallas Green Festival,” an educational event aimed at raising awareness about being eco-friendly with the City of Dallas and featuring the Green Grass Generation. This year the event will be held at Texas Discovery Gardens!

The event includes free Garden admission (Butterfly House exhibit includes fee). Exciting Attractions include a Smart Car Rally, Mass Butterfly Release and Tagging, Outdoor Recreation Zone, Food and Music, Classes for Adults and Kids, Whole Lifestyle Demos, Fun, Educational Activities for Kids, Recycled Arts and Crafts and Face Painting!

Saturday, November 6: Garden Walk -- Perennials & Native Trees 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Free with garden admission.

Join Horticulture Director Randy Johnson on this annual tour of native trees and perennials. Finish in time to go to the Fall Plant Sale!

Saturday, November 6: Fall Plant Sale 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Enjoy a selection of perennials and annuals as we clear out the greenhouse for the winter. Plants go quickly, so get there early for the best deals.

Date TBA: Master Composter Certification Course. 9 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. $50; $40 members.

Texas Discovery Gardens offers its second Master Composter Certification Course. Learn about composting techniques, helpful insects, worms, and compost tea. With completion of optional volunteer hours, participants will receive a certificate. Class includes lunch, a book, compost thermometer, and worm bin, courtesy of Living Earth.
