Bringing the Trinity River to Life
Exhibition of paintings inspired by the Trinity River

Follow the Trinity River through the eyes of ten artists from Studio Art & Soul in Texas Discovery Gardens’ new exhibit. Nearly 40 works in oil, acrylic and encaustic cover many viewpoints of the river in an exhibit called “Bringing the Trinity River to Life.”

Each artist has painted his and her inspirations from the Trinity and its surrounding life. The paintings function like a magnifying lens, showing viewers the artistic side to the landscapes, history, and ecosystem of this aquatic lifeline.  Free admission for reception.

You'll get to meet John Watts, our entomologist, our Director, Melissa Martin, or other knowledgeable staff members who can answer your bug and botany questions!

Recycled Mulch

Fresh mulchA BIG thanks to Preservation Tree Services for their donation of cedar mulch for our gardens!

A note from Sharon Van Buskirk at PTS: "Preservation Tree Services, Inc. is pleased as punch to deliver four full truck loads of fresh cedar mulch to Texas Discovery Gardens during these dog days of summer. Keeping our carbon footprint as light as possible, we are trucking in the mulch from one of our projects in Oak Cliff for full use by the Gardens. The mulch will enhance moisture retention and help cool the temperature around the plants during the hot, dry days ahead."

In Memoriam

Ernie Ryan with Director Melissa Martin at our Tropical Butterfly Release January, 2010Ernie Ryan (Sept. 2, 1913 to July 30, 2010)

We would like to take a moment to honor and remember Ernie Ryan, longtime lepidopterist and volunteer. Since 1994, Ernie spent many hours at the Gardens teaching visitors about butterflies and other insects. He often took his pinned butterfly collection to libraries and nature centers across DFW to share his passion for the natural world with children and adults. In addition to educating others about butterflies, Ernie enjoyed bowling and bridge.
