March 18: Watercolor Nature Mandalas
A mandala is a circular art form found in all cultures across the globe. Have a relaxing, meditative evening and learn watercolor techniques at the same time. Using watercolor pencils and paints, bring your nature-inspired Mandala to life. You will go home with a beautiful art piece and an understanding of working with this wonderful medium.

March 25: Mexican Metalwork (Repujado)
In this fun and festive workshop, we will create colorful metal ornaments inspired by nature to hang on your wall or in your window. You will learn the process of forming your design in metal and adding further interest with texture and color.

April 1: Paper making
Using natural fibers, plants and flowers, you will learn how to make handmade paper. It is a finished art piece in itself, or it can be incorporated in future work (like in Nature Prints, the following week).

April 8: Nature Prints
Document and celebrate the beauty of the natural world. You will ink our gathered leaves and seeds and run them through a printing press, resulting in a one of a kind, in the moment creation of a work of art. If you made paper in the previous week, your Nature Print is a beautiful addition.

April 15: Nature Journals and How to Use Them
In this class you will create a beautiful & unique binder for your notes and observations in the outdoors. You will use a variety of printing and painting techniques. If you made paper and/or Nature Prints in the previous weeks, you can use those in this project as well. Janet will explain how to date, document, draw and write about your experiences in the field. Naturalists of old gave us the baseline information for much of our understanding of the natural world today.

April 22: Botanical and Butterfly Illustration
This is an easy way to learn about flowers, plants and butterflies using your observational skills. Drawing butterflies and plants using pencil and watercolor is a great way to document your sightings in the field and garden. These can be added to your Nature Journals as a natural "next step" to your journaling practice.

“Sustainable Living” is all the buzz these days, but how do we implement it? Join us for an exciting two part class and find out! First, a local financial professional and Texas Discovery Gardens member will show you where to find higher yielding investments than what your bank CD’s, money market accounts, and bond funds are paying. This “Financial Sustainability” talk will last about 20 minutes. Then, Director of Horticulture Roger Sanderson will spend the rest of the class on “Landscape Sustainability.” Whether you’re a new homeowner or want to invigorate your home’s landscaping, Roger will showcase his favorite native plants that thrive in DFW. This is especially useful information in light of our near-permanent watering restrictions. Take home a plant to get you on your way. Includes a tour of the gardens and greenhouse. If you can't make the class on March 29, this will be similar. This also makes a great addition to the Butterfly Gardening Workshop! $25; $20 for TDG Members. Register in advance.
